Please join the Lemann Center for Brazilian Studies for a lecture entitled “The New Challenges of Fighting Corruption in Brazil: Changes in Brazilian Legal and Political Culture and the Defense of Rule of Law, Democracy and Freedom,” by Bruno Wanderley Junior.
The lecture will present the endemic corruption in Brazil through a historical analysis, from the colonial period to present day. It will focus on the cultural change in the political relationship between the people and the State in the combat against all forms of corruption and in the defense of democracy and freedom as essential conditions for the consolidation of the rule of law in Brazil. Finally, the lecture will discuss the role of the internal controlling agencies of public administration and the effectiveness of the legal system and constitutional law.
Bruno Wanderley Junior is the Director of the Laboratory of Law and Technological Innovation at UFMG (Federal University of Minas Gerais). He is also an Associate Professor of International and Constitutional Law at UFMG, a Professor of International Law and Human Rights at PUC Minas (Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais), a Professor of Constitutional Law at UNIFENAS (University of Alfenas), and a Visiting Professor at FGV (Fundação Getúlio Vargas) in Rio de Janeiro. Bruno holds a PhD from UFMG, where he also obtained his masters and undergraduate degree. He is an attorney at Law, registered at OAB (Brazilian Bar Association).
